This Call of Duty 2 patch is an update issued for the game that targets key components and changes them for a better game playing experience. This patch, referred to as 1.3, is the third major patch issued for the game.

Patch 1.3 is a complete package update. Downloading and installing this version of the game will bring with it the updates from previous versions (such as 1.2) and enable the most current playing experience.

As far as content for this patch goes, the update is mainly targeted for online play. The patch updates many problems that were encountered in online play (especially those problems occurring with specific maps) as well as overall experience changes.

In general online, the first major change included an update from a 16k to 128k gamestate. This was done to create a better playing experience for those connected to the server. Loading bars were updated and added to Rhine and Harbor in order to aid in wait times. Lastly, the Punkbuster GUID has been updated to accommodate and repair issues that were encountered when players had extremely long names. These long names had previously interfered with Punkbuster's ability to screen players.

On the map side of things, this patch fixed problems on Rhine and Harbor. On Rhine, the patch has prevented players from seeing over a wall into a bombed out building (that was meant to be in place originally). On Harbor, fog was decreased, water textures were improved, landscape obstruction was fixed, and floating obstacles were lowered to their correct positions.

One last important note before downloading and installing the patch: You will need to uninstall your mods for Call of Duty 2 before updating. This is possible by going into your file folders for the game and removing the additional content. Launching the game with out of date mods (mods that you have previously downloaded but are not in date for patch 1.3) can cause problems with playing the game.

With all this in mind, let’s take a look at the Pros and Cons. The patch breaks down in this way:

The updates to the online experience help any general or map problems before they cause an issue.

The update to Punkbuster will help out the games and help it screen more effectively.

The improved gamestate from 16k to 128k will aid in game performance.

One patch updates to the most current version.

No more floating boxes.

Your out of date mods may cause problems with playing the game until you remove them.
